Fall has always been my favorite season of the year. Growing up in Indiana, the change in weather brings two of my favorite things: football and flannel. I’ve already written about football so let’s focus on the latter. Admittedly, I am no expert on fashion, but my personal opinion is that women look the most beautiful in the fall — wearing dark jeans, boots, and mixing solids and patterns in layers.
Plus, it’s the only time of year that women get to wear my favorite part of any wardrobe: flannel.
Until now, I never took the time to consider why I’ve always found women to be more attractive this time of year. Obviously my preferences are different than others, but I’m going to attempt to articulate what I find attractive about women’s fall fashion.
In my opinion, the most important piece of a fall outfit is a great pair of dark jeans. The style and wash is less important, but they need to fit great. Know yourself and what styles you look good and feel good wearing. When you feel good in something, you walk with more confidence. And guys notice this. A great pair of jeans can easily catch your man’s attention. It could even be the spark that ignites your next relationship.
These are some of my favorite fits and styles:
Moving a little lower, the perfect complement to well-fitting jeans is a great pair of boots. Depending on where you live and how often you encounter dirt, different styles of boots can work for different outfits. I’m always confused when I see a girl wearing hiking boots in a city that rarely sees a drop of mud. Vice versa, stilettos to an outdoor concert in the grass… awkward. Trust me, a guy will appreciate your practicality if your outfit is appropriate for the environment. Plus, you’ll feel more comfortable.
The truth: You can wear almost anything on your feet with jeans and make an outfit work. Just choose something practical that you enjoy wearing. This fall, I’m excited to see boots, especially “duck” boots, reappear. These styles work with almost any pair of jeans.
Last and my personal favorite: flannel. Fall fashion is all about layers. I don’t claim to be an expert on this, but I’m generally attracted to a layered outfit featuring a pattern over a complementary solid. You can do this look a million different ways, but when well-executed (especially with great jeans and boots) it can be an absolute showstopper. Just be careful not to choose a pattern that’s too busy or bright.
These are some of my favorite flannel patterns:
This is just one man’s opinion, and we all have different styles and preferences. In the end, confidence tops everything.
